Job Description

The Washington, DC public policy office of Cox Enterprises, Inc. is hiring a Director of Government Affairs to support the federal government affairs function of the office.      

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with the VP of Government Affairs in developing and implementing company public policy positions.  Including:
    • Monitor and analyze legislation and legislative activities of interest to the company.
    • Coordinate activities for grassroots and executive engagement on public policy issues.
    • Manage the company Congressional database.
    • Provide basic research, draft talking points and briefing materials for Congressional meetings.
    • Assist in preparation of briefing materials for executive visits.
    • Support preparation of Lobbying Disclosure Act filings.
  • Engage in direct advocacy with Members of Congress and staff in support of Cox’s public policy positions.  (The candidate must be willing to register under the Lobbying Disclosure Act.)
  • Work closely with member trade associations and coalitions.
  • Build relationships with Members of Congress and staff, trade associations, industry colleagues.
  • Support operation of CoxPAC.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of public policy/advocacy experience
  • Previous experience in a Congressional office is highly desired
  • Knowledge of cable, broadcasting or automotive issues.
  • Strong writing and communications skills.

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree required. Advanced degree in law, political science, public administration, communications or a related discipline is a plus.
