Job Description

Position Overview
Autodesk is seeking an experienced professional to lead public policy and government affairs initiatives for the company, including advocacy of its policy priorities and values before government officials globally.

Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the Vice President of Government Affairs will work with Autodesk’s senior leaders to establish corporate public policy and government affairs priorities and execute a strategy to realize these objectives. This individual will raise Autodesk’s presence and influence in the U.S. with Congress, the Executive Branch and state and local public officials, and with leaders in the EU and other key markets. This individual will be an influential leader in Autodesk’s public policy trade associations in the U.S. and abroad, and present Autodesk’s priorities and values persuasively in media, public hearings, policy conferences and other high-profile public events around the world.

The Vice President of Government Affairs will lead the global government affairs team and manage its budget and resources, including consultants worldwide. This individual will partner closely with business colleagues to align policy advocacy with business strategic objectives, and communicate effectively about the company’s government affairs priorities to key stakeholders, including employees, customers and investors.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and analyze global public policy developments that are relevant to Autodesk’s business interests and engage senior executives and other key stakeholders to develop company positions
  • Develop and execute advocacy strategies to influence legislation, regulation and other public policies of strategic interest to Autodesk in key jurisdictions
  • Partner closely with Autodesk executives and other business partners to inform policy positions and ensure that advocacy is aligned with the company’s business priorities and values
  • Advise business partner colleagues about the effect of policy developments on product development, sales, business strategy and company operations
  • Design and manage the global government affairs team to meet the company’s strategic objectives and provide strong leadership to team members to ensure successful execution of critical functions, including policy analysis, policy communications, lobbying, and political law compliance
  • Retain and manage government affairs and public policy consultants as necessary to deliver on company policy objectives
  • Create and manage the budget of a global government affairs function
  • Develop and influence partnerships with key external stakeholders including public policy trade associations, non-profits and think tanks, and represent the company’s perspectives and interests persuasively in such organizations
  • Engage key company stakeholders in the government affairs program, including the Board, executives, business leaders, employees and customers
  • Represent the company in high-profile public engagements, including media appearances, public hearings, and policy conferences
  • Support Legal Compliance colleagues to help business partners understand and meet their obligations under national, state/provincial and local political laws


Minimum Qualifications 

  • 15+ years of global public policy experience, including experience in the U.S. legislative or executive branch and in corporate government affairs
  • Proven ability to manage, lead and empower a highly skilled and culturally diverse team of professionals to produce consistently outstanding results
  • Successful record of managing complex public policy analysis and advocacy strategies, including policy communications with senior global government officials
  • Strong business acumen and ability to engage senior executives and high-level government officials
  • BA or BS degree


Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven record leading a corporate global government affairs function within the technology industry or similar competitive and regulatory environment
  • Experience managing trade association relationships, consultants, and other government affairs resources
  • Knowledge of and passion for the software industry and its role in making and building a better world
  • Analytical and advocacy expertise on privacy, security, data transferability, intellectual property, market access, and other software policy issues
  • Experience advocating for public policy issues relating to building and infrastructre design and construction, and advanced manufacturing
  • JD, MBA, or advanced degree in an applicable field
