General Summary: The Senior Government Relations Specialist recommends, implements, and manages strategies of the Industry and Government Relations Program. This position serves as a conduit of information relaying and carrying out AMTA’s core ideology, envisioned future, strategic plan, and board-determined focus to the industry and government relations stakeholders and outside entities. This position takes a proactive approach to identify issues that may potentially impact the profession including policy, insurance, healthcare, research and others. This position ensures that AMTA’s viewpoints and members are represented in the massage therapy industry and among the different organizations and coalitions that affect the professions of massage therapy and complementary and alternative medicine. This includes representing and managing outside relationships with organizations, coalitions, government entities, committees and public officials. Industry Relations looks for new opportunities with organizations that promote AMTA members and support the advancement of the profession. This position oversees partnerships with other organizations that promote massage and AMTA members while adding value to membership. It is responsible for identifying and managing research opportunities that support the efficacy of massage and other profession-wide initiatives to advance the profession. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Works to ensure the interrelationship between outside industry groups and AMTA, especially on issues of strategic importance; Identifies and fosters relationships with stakeholders within and outside the profession that impact massage therapy; Gathers, reviews, analyzes, and provides relevant data for reports/presentations to industry stakeholders; Conducts an ongoing analysis of industry relations and ensures that this analysis is incorporated into the AMTA planning process. Provides recommendations and works with other departments, to ensure AMTA is represented in the industry and within complementary and alternative medicine; Identifies research opportunities that support the efficacy of massage and other profession-wide initiatives to advance the profession Identifies areas to deliver value to the membership through existing products, programs and services; Attends and represents AMTA at meetings, conference calls, or other events as requested and authorized by the Director, Government and Industry Relations; Regularly provides written reports to the Director, Government and Industry Relations; May serve as a staff team leader or liaison. In this capacity, ensures standing committee, workgroup and/ or operational committee assigned fulfills its charges and/ or stated purposes and meets identified measurable objectives within budget and on deadline; Works with other departments on identifying key organizations and contacts for member programs, products and services. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Three to five years in association management with direct experience working with volunteer leadership required; Experience with special interest groups, program committees or client associations working in collaboration with a larger organizations; Experience in the development and implementation of strategic/operational plans, budgets and measures; Experience in working with coalitions and member organizations, including the development of meeting agendas, preparation of background information, meeting management in partnership with volunteer leaders; the communication of meeting outcomes; Excellent oral, written, presentation skills and interpersonal communication skills; Highly developed analytical skills; Standards development is a plus. In addition, successful candidates at this level in the organization must exhibit the following skills and behaviors: Ability to analyze situations, exhibit good judgment and make sound, ethical decisions; Acceptance of responsibility; Ability to collaborate, cooperate and be flexible; Ability to plan and manage both operations and costs; Ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written form; Service/management of AMTA customers including volunteers, members, and vendor. Education and Experience: A minimum of three years related experience working directly with volunteers in an association environment; Bachelor’s degree is required, advanced degree is a plus; Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; internet search engines. Comments: This position requires some evening and weekend work. Employee must have the ability to travel.
