Job Description

Department: Senior Advisor, Public Policy
Reports to: Engagement


Position Summary


The Advisor, Public Policy supports the Senior Advisor for Public Policy, Chief Engagement and Dissemination Officer, and the PCORI Board of Governors and executives in representing PCORI with Congress, including members, committee staff and legislative staff. Supports the development of PCORI’s education and outreach strategies to successfully inform policy makers on activities related to PCORI’s overall objectives. In addition, the Advisor, Public Policy will work with the Senior Advisor to provide the PCORI executive team with advice on pending issues that could affect PCORI’s future work. The Advisor will support PCORI’s efforts in building and maintaining relationships with policymakers, agencies, and officials at all levels of government to increase their understanding of, and support for, PCORI’s mission and strategic goals. 


Duties and Responsibilities


Develop and conduct outreach efforts to Congressional staff and external policymakers.

  • Work with the Senior Advisor, Public Policy to identify strategic opportunities for outreach to targeted policymakers.
  • Coordinate and participate in PCORI meetings with policymakers within Congress and the Administration.
  • Develop documents and materials to support internal and external communication of PCORI priorities.
  • In partnership with the Senior Advisor, Public Policy and Director of Public and Patient Engagement, work to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and organizations.
  • Monitors congressional activity and ensures timely and appropriate responses to any inquiries. Manages PCORI’s recordkeeping with respect to congressional communications.

 Support and Coordinate Messaging Initiatives.

  • Working in coordination with Communications, contributes to the development of PCORI’s strategic communications and messages.
  • Serve as liaison between departments and teams to ensure increased coordination and information sharing.
  • Help draft, review, and shape materials, including blog posts, op-eds, articles, that will be used for external communication.

Support and Coordinate projects for the Engagement Department.

  • Facilitate information exchange within Engagement teams to better coordinate Department activities and strategies.
  • Collaborate with other PCORI programs and leadership in the development and execution of projects.
  • Assist in the development and management of PCORI briefings, roundtables, workgroups and workshops.
