Within HHS SAMHSA maintains NREPP. Application for this list with ample research evidence was submitted for EEG biofeedback. Indeed 80% success with addictions is the norm for EEG biofeedback (neurofeedback). A technocrat at DSG judged that the application was out of scope because it is too physiological and not behavioral or psychosocial. They won't look at the evidence. They told me they require something that is ". . .not simply an intervention that is manipulating electrical responses."
There is an appeal process for rejection from the list, but not for being out of scope. I'd like to challenge the out of scope determination in a variety of ways and with several arguments and support from diverse credible sources and organizations. The technocrat will be sending me more detail on SAMHSA's internal rules and rationale and has invited my response to their decision.
I would like help, guidance and direction for this challence. There are several biofeedback organizations who would like to see success here and I presume there would be broad and deep support for an intervention that is so successful. Can you help me mobilize both my biofeedback community and the government to allow EEG biofeedback on the NREPP?
I want help coordinating a letter writing campaign to both congress and SAMHSA. Perhaps getting a clause into the 21st century cures legislation is feasible
