Job Description

 

Job Description Purpose:
Supports the Novo Nordisk (NNI) State Government Affairs home office and field based state lobbyist team, in monitoring, analysis and advocacy activities related to state legislative and regulatory developments affecting patients in NNI therapeutic areas and assists in assuring compliance with requirements associated with lobbying activity in the states and management of external contract consultants.

Relationships:
Reports to the Senior Director, State Government Affairs. Interacts with Public Affairs leadership team as appropriate, the field-based NNI state government affairs team and external parties, including consultants working for Novo Nordisk, trade and legislative/public official associations (NGA, NCSL, etc.), law firms, vendors and other entities, including state and local public officials as required. Interacts with various people internally, including the NNI Public Policy team, Communications and others in various functional areas, involved in developing Novo Nordisk’s positions and strategy on public policy issues. Position will be based in Plainsboro, New Jersey.

Essential Functions:
At the direction the Senior Director, monitoring and evaluating state legislative and regulatory developments for their potential impact to patients or NNI operations, assuring individual field-based team members remain aware of new legislative and regulatory proposals in their respective regions and developing materials for use in NNI state advocacy activities.

Planning and execution of visits by public officials, patients and other stakeholders to NNI facilities, as well as other special events and activities, in coordination with multiple internal NNI stakeholders in facility operations, communications, legal and commercial operations.

Maintaining bill and regulation tracking files and communication vehicles to assure internal NNI stakeholder awareness of policy changes affective their objectives

Supporting Senior Director/other leadership in developing presentations for internal and external audiences, including power point presentations, talking point documents and other advocacy materials.

Drafting regular internal reports on legislative and regulatory developments in the states

Supporting department contracting/invoicing processes and compliance with lobbying laws/regulations relative to the management of external contract consultants and essential to the operation of the Department.

Physical Requirements:
10% overnight travel required- May require monthly visits to Washington DC office

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
* A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required
* 3+ years of experience in State; Federal legislative or public policy-making activities, including research, analysis and writing, required
* Ability to work under tight deadlines, with minimal supervision required
* Legislative/regulatory or related association experience preferred
* Results-focused – prior track record required
* Understanding of healthcare pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry issues preferred, but not required
