Job Description

Primary Purpose:
Assist in the planning and implementation of government affairs, community involvement and charitable contributions strategy and programs in support of Sempra LNG & Midstream and Sempra Renewables business goals.  Foster and maintain a positive company image.  Coordinate employee involvement programs.  Coordinate and monitor external communications and outreach in support of business goals.


  • Assist in the development and implementation of community relations plans and programs in support of business unit strategic goals and objectives Implement community relations programs that support the company’s citizenship agenda and positively impact company reputation.  
  • Help implement and monitor government relations to support development activity throughout the United States to support Sempra LNG & Midstream and Sempra Renewables business efforts. 
  • Assess and assist in the development of strategies to establish legislative policies to create a positive business environment.
  • Review and evaluate external requests for company-related memberships, dues, giving and involvement, and implement external programs with selected organizations and media. 
  • Monitor and report on contributions budget.
  • Build, sustain and enhance relationships with key community, business and opinion leaders. 
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with community leaders and philanthropic organizations in the business units’ territories.
  • Maintain current knowledge and awareness of public opinion/reaction to external events in order to proactively support community relations.
  • Counsel and support business unit leadership regarding their community involvement. 
  • Coordinate employee involvement programs and activities that support company goals.
  • Assess legislative and regulatory policy and actions. Provide quarterly reports to prioritize and monitor legislation that could impact the Sempra Infrastructure companies.
  • Develop strong working relationships with other Sempra Energy external affairs groups.
  • Represent the company at public meetings and community functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Typically requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in political science, communications, public relations, journalism or a related field.
  • Five years of related professional experience in government affairs, communications, public relations, and/or marketing.  Prior experience in a corporate environment a plus.



  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications is required.
  • Position will require travel approximately 30 percent of the time.
