Our regional trade association is looking for a Vice President, Legislative Affairs to strategize and lead credit union advocacy efforts in Washington State.  We are looking for someone with proven competency in strategic thinking, plan development, and execution.

Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Develop and deploy a Washington state advocacy strategy to advance significant state advocacy wins (in all branches of state government including leg/reg/admin/judicial) for credit unions.
  • Effectively advocate credit union interests before Washington State legislators and executive personnel. 
  • Lead the development of legislation beneficial to WA credit unions by working in collaboration with AVP Regulatory Advocacy and WA credit unions.
  • Manage the development and implementation of effective lobbying strategies, in collaboration with other Association staff and contract lobbyist(s).
  • Monitor and track Washington State legislation. Identify emerging legislative developments and proactively shape issue agendas on behalf of the Association.
  • Understand WA Credit Union Act and additional state laws that impact credit unions as financial services providers and businesses in the state.
  • Develop strategic state PAC budget to support WA legislative and statewide candidates.
  • Serve as treasurer of Washington State PAC, CULAF.

The perfect candidate has superb communication skills, the ability to grasp complex subjects and a background in legislative affairs, lobbying or politics. Experience with financial institutions is a plus.  The ideal candidate will be intrepid, have a four-year degree in political science, or other related field or the equivalent work experiences and have a passion for the legislative arena.  Five years minimum experience evidencing a background in lobbying, fundraising, legislative affairs, or grassroots coordination.  You must have proven competency in strategic thinking, plan development, and execution. Three years minimum experience effectively working with the state legislature.

Salary ranges from $75,000 – 95,000 depending on experience. Generous benefits package including employer paid medical/dental, 401k match, paid vacation and much more.
