Job Description

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is seeking a Director, State Advocacy in our Itasca, Illinois office. The Director will lead the AAP state advocacy initiatives and supervise a team of five. The Director will develop, implement, and monitor AAP priority issues and initiatives to advance those priority issues at the state level. They will also provide expertise and counsel to the AAP Executive Committee and Board of Directors and AAP chapters, committees, sections, councils, task forces, and members on state advocacy.


The AAP is seeking an individual with at least six years’ related experience in state government relations, lobbying, or other legislative or legal experience at the state level. Previous supervisory experience is required. Experience with child health care state advocacy issues is preferred. A bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, public health policy or a related field is required. A Master’s of JD degree is preferred. Some travel and weekend work required.
